While working at a local community center, Geoffrey Carter was asked by the director if he’d be interested in teaching a group music class. He jumped at the chance, and that one class turned into something much bigger. Today, Geoffrey owns BeatNest, a music school dedicated to empowering kids and teenagers through music technology located in Western Massachusetts. It offers courses in DJing, music production, songwriting, and audio recording, helping students express themselves through sound.

When Geoffrey heard about the EforAll Business Accelerator from a friend who had completed the program, he knew it was the next step for him. He was passionate about BeatNest but wanted more guidance on how to make it sustainable. Through the Accelerator, he not only learned the nuts and bolts of running a business but also found a supportive community that believed in collaboration over competition. His favorite part? The people. Many of his cohort members became long-term friends, collaborators, and even customers, proving the power of a connected local business network. His mentors were especially valuable, offering advice, new ideas, and a safe space to brainstorm solutions. These connections made all the difference in keeping BeatNest growing strong.

Since graduating, BeatNest has rapidly expanded. Geoffrey relocated the business to a larger space in Pittsfield, MA, enabling group classes, birthday parties, and a music tech retail area. This expansion increased the number of students, revenue, and staff, with continued growth planned. “I always tell people, EforAll is a valuable experience even if your business doesn’t succeed in the way you want it to, since they can help you understand everything you would need to know,” says Geoffrey.
