Problem-solving and social skills are not typically synonymous with “fun”, but Mastermind Adventures is working to change that.
Krysten Callina, Owner and self-proclaimed “Princess of Power” of Mastermind Adventures says that her development of engaging activities and programs started out as filling a need within her own family. “My son has high functioning autism and 7 years ago he didn’t like sports at all. We needed to find a way to keep him connected and socialized in a way that was interesting to him.”
Krysten and her husband Jason discovered that there were many kids like theirs that had never been on a sports team, but still needed physical movement and healthy interaction with other kids, so they started off by creating a weekly Nerf Wars group. “It’s still our most popular thing to do. Any kid with a Nerf blaster in their hand will be running, they’re getting sweaty, it continues to be a great way to connect with kids.”
