Healthy Pet Bakery Doing Great in the Berkshires
During the pandemic, McKenna Burzimati adopted a dog, Roxie, to keep her company. She couldn’t find healthy dog treats, so she decided to make them herself. Word got out at the dog daycare where she worked, and she started getting requests for her delicious and healthy dog treats. She soon opened Roxie’s Barkery, a bakery, and boutique for dogs and cats in North Adams, MA.
While selling her treats at a popup event, McKenna heard about the Berkshire County Fall 2021 Business Accelerator and applied for it, looking to take her business further. “It was totally out of my comfort zone, but I knew there was so much to learn, so much I didn’t know,” she recalls.
The weekly mentor meetings proved very productive and helped her achieve her business goals. “We had a great connection. They believed in my business and knew how much I wanted it to be successful.”
Roxie’s Barkery has had spectacular growth since graduation, moving from McKenna’s parents’ kitchen to a brick-and-mortar store with a professional kitchen. Additionally, her treats are sold in 16 wholesale locations and were recently voted “Best of the Berkshires.”
