FarmThrift will be a two sided app to bolster local food economies in terms of both production and distribution. Side 1: The online farmers market. This will be a platform where small and medium sized farmers can “upload” their foodstuffs allowing local residents and businesses to place single orders from multiple farms which will then be delivered to their doorstep via a freelance “Uber-Eats” style delivery driver system. Buyers will pay a delivery fee based on both the size of the order and the distance required to travel to complete the order. This fee will pay the drivers and allow the service to operate at no charge to the farmer. Side 2: The tool shed. This will be a platform where farmers can learn about how converging internet, agricultural, and energy technologies can be applied to their operation to increase/diversify production and peace of mind while reducing resource use and purchase these technologies. Farmers will also be able to sell and trade their own equipment.
