We offer a fun and rewarding opportunity for successful people to give back by helping entrepreneurs understand their customer segment, test and refine their business model, and get their ventures started. This volunteer program aligns experience with ambition.
Accelerator mentors work with an Entrepreneur and 2 other mentors in a team environment. High touch, high commitment of 1.5 hrs/week for 12 weeks; followed by 1.5 hrs/month for 9 months. Each EforAll location runs two Accelerators a year: Mentors can participate in either or both.
Accelerator Mentors are individuals with significant business and leadership experience who can help guide new entrepreneurs through the process of turning their idea into a growing business. Must be able to work with a wide variety of technologies, industries and business experience, and be able to relate their own personal and business experience into different industries and sectors. We welcome and encourage individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences to join, a curious and open mind is truly a plus. Must be able to make the time commitment!
For me, being a mentor is a win-win in three ways. First, you are part of building something great when you work with highly motivated entrepreneurs who are open to new perspecitves and are committed to making thier venture succeed. Secondly, you connect with fellow mentors in your community who are thought leaders and share your passion for helping local entrepreneurs succeed. And lastly, through the experiences and passion of the entrepreneur, you will always manage to learn alongside them and bring some new ideas and perspectives into your own work.
Having a structured framework such as the Accelerator Program enables one to see development and improvement over time and therefore have some measure of impact. I have had the opportunity to provide ad hoc mentoring to many people over my career in a large corporation. While satisfying and useful, it was not always possible to see the end result so clearly.
Working within this disciplined process provided the opportunity to add value along the way in support of the entrepreneur’s defined objectives and then see directly how it turns out.
I love being involved in something that is in its beginning stages and where the entrepreneur is open to advice and direction. It’s a balance between what they need and what I get from it that makes this experience so valuable. I was able to bring something to the table that was needed and appreciated. For me, being self employed and not part of a team, I often miss the opportunity to share my gifts with others and being a mentor really gives me that opportunity. I’m often on auto pilot with my businesses and love this opportunity to help someone else. I loved the team, meetings, scheduling, etc. It worked perfect for my schedule.
