The Afrona is a product born out of necessity as Charlene Pena struggled with keeping her natural curls all her life. While doing an internship that required her to wear a sunhat all day, she came up with the product idea as a way to stop her curls from flattening. She founded Woven Royal, which helps women with curly and voluminous hair keep their curls intact no matter what they are doing.

After winning an EforAll Lynn Pitch contest, Charlene decided to apply for the Winter 2019 Lynn Accelerator because she still felt like she needed help.  “I was feeling lost and didn’t know what I was doing. The curriculum was exactly what I needed to turn my idea into a business.”

She credits her mentors with really helping her confidence and direction, saying, “They were there to hold my hand and steer me in the right direction.”

Today her business is enjoying healthy growth, and she has even hired a part-time employee to manage sales.
